Hi, I'm Liam, and this is my associate Sean. We are two stay at home parents who decided to work together and uncover the secrets of lotion. With my (Liam's) almost new born child, it's difficult to find the right hygienic and skin care products that won’t hurt his skin while meeting my standards. This lotion, which I've adapted from one off of Katie Wells, incorporates natural ingredients in an effective manner which is also non-toxic and edible for the baby. I really recommend this lotion if you have psoriasis, acne, or even just sensitive skin, which is all addressed by the healing properties of our ingredients. Some advice I’d give you is to let the mixture harden in the bowl after the first boil and if it is too hard, add about a fourth cup of almond oil.
Materials:
-Coconut Oil- ¼ Cup- Purchasable at Walmart Or Amazon
This ingredient was selected for hits semi-solid, moisturizing properties. Coconut oil is used to increase skin elasticity by stimulating the skin to produce more collagen (so it’s good for us over fifty ladies too😉).
-Jojoba Oil(or almond oil)- ½ Cup- Purchasable on Amazon
This ingredient is as incredible as quinoa. It reduces inflammation, and expedites wound healing on a cellular level by creating a barrier between skin and the rest of the world. These attributes encourage use on acne and psoriasis.
-Bee’s Wax(solidifying agent)- ¼ Cup- Purchasable on Amazon
The bee’s wax is used to heal you as well as solidify the mixture. In addition, it acts as a surfactant, acting as a new surface and protecting you from irritants.
Other Ingredients and Materials:
Double Boiler- Used to homogenize the ingredients into one.
Shea Butter- 2 TBSP used to help solidify as well as moisturize skin.
Whatever Essential Oils you enjoy (we used orange however the smell didn't work so well).
Procedure(Use Oven Mitts and take basic precautions):
Add 1.5 cups of water into a pot, heat it to a light boil and add a metal bowl on top
As steam builds in the pot, add all of your ingredients into the pot and stir until liquid.
Wait about 2 minutes for your mixture to partially cool.
Use a funnel and pour into whatever small containers you’ve got.
Apply a small amount and enjoy.
Conclusion:
Overall, Sean and I had lots of fun making this product, it is somewhat oily but made with only good oils. The product is very moisturizing however, if I had done it again, I think we would add a lot more coconut oil for a smooth consistency.
