Soo Good

Pittsburgh's weather is very unpredictable as you probably could relate if you live here. One day it could be breezy, calm and just enough sun or there could be days where it's below freezing temperature, humid and dry and those are the days your lips turn into the moon's surface. A common fix is lip balm, It has many pros to it but the one biggest con to it, is that it’s easily lost! And starts to add up in overtime buying constantly. So me and my partner got our chapped lips heading into the winter season did a quick google search to DIY lip balm, tweaked ingredients to our liking saved future money got smooth lips WIN WIN
And it only took less than 4 minutes!
The recipe we followed used the following ingredients:
-Beeswax (I purchased at Walmart but you can buy online as well)
-Coconut Oil (you can find at any grocery store)
-Vitamin E Oil (online or Walmart)
-Peppermint Oil (or any scented essential oil)
-Lipstick or Crayons for color
-Plastic pots/ or container
This recipe could be found on YouTube under the channel name of: whatsupmoms
We used a pot on top of a hot plate
with a mason jar inside in order to create a simple double boiler setup.
The whole thing could take up to 10 minutes or less with a yield of 4-6 small containers
The price of the items can range under 15 dollars to 25 depending on the size and brand of the product you buy. Investing in this is worthwhile because overtime you save money have few containers on stand-by or even sell some.
The ingredients we used are helpful in their own way for example vitamin e oil helps heal cuts or scars on your lip smoothed it out coco oil acts as a moisturizer to prevent drying out your lips.
Now the process to making the lip balm goes as
4 Tbs Beeswax
4 Tbs Coconut Oil
1 Tsp Vitamin E Oil (optional)
6-8 drops Peppermint (or an flavor oil) for scent
*this makes about 6-8 lip balms...you can use any 1:1 ratio of wax to oil to make smaller or larger amounts
Tips:
If you don’t want to use the microwave a double boiler works as well. Just place your (heat safe) measuring glass in a pan filled with almost boiling water and stir until ingredients are all melted. Add Vitamin E oil and essential oils at the end so that they don’t evaporate.
If you are reusing your old EOS container add any leftover EOS balm in the mixture and it will have an even silkier texture.
This recipe makes a firm balm so use less beeswax if you want to make a lip gloss.
In Conclusion we find this to be the best lip balm recipe out there
It checks out our boxes in budget, flavor, texture, appearance and most important the effectiveness.
Doing things yourself might make you feel lazy but going through the process was super fun it was like baking a cake mixing things together to ultimately have a total different outcome was a unique feeling so i recommend you try it to!
