Have you ever wanted to buy a suitable chapstick that fits your needs, but you have no luck? Well you can diy your own chapstick with a simple recipe and adjust it to your liking! It's simple and easy to make at home. You can customize it and make it look however you want. You'll have moisturized soft lips while having fun creating different colors and styles.
You'll need:
1 tbsp Beeswax Pastilles
1 tbsp Jojoba Oil
1 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 tbsp olive oil (optional)
Essential oils (optional and as many drops as you wish)
Color Dyes (optional if you want a tint or just to have it a pretty color)
You can adjust the amount of how much you want to make to your liking. I learned how to make this just today in class, and my first run at it, I had made a mistake and messed it up by adding water. Water makes it more difficult for the stuff to melt and it will not mix properly. The oils and water will separate, along with the coloring (if you use powder like I did). So when you put it in the container, the water will go to the bottom and very little of the actual stuff forming the chapstick will be at the top and it will not form correctly because there will be water ontop and inside it.
(This is how the melting process looked like and when all the products are mixed together)
So first, what you will do is a double boiling method. Take a pot and put water in it and let it boil, then put all the ingredients into a SEPARATE container or bowl, and put the bowl into the boiling water. It will melt the beeswax and coconut oil. Keep watching it while it melts and stir it every few seconds. It shouldn’t take long to melt depending on how much products you put in or how high the heat it on. After it is all melted you can add the essential oils into it or any scents you want. You will need to quickly pour the liquid into the containers. It will turn hard fast so do it fast so you get as much product into them before it dries. But if it does dry before getting it into the container, all you have to do is just reheat it up. If you want your chapstick to be more softer, add less beeswax and more oils. But if you want to keep it thick, then add a little more beeswax into it. But don’t change the measurements up too much without testing a little amount before making a big batch. My first mistake was adding water into the mixture, which ruined the whole thing (which is explained above what happened and why it went bad) For my second attempt, it worked out well. I added a little more beeswax and the chapstick became more thicker, but still keeps your lips smooth and soft.
All of the materials are safe for your skin and lips, but if you have any problems such as allergies with the items listed above, I would not recommend using them. You can substitute them with other things that will be simple and safe for you. Beeswax has non-allergenic properties that can make it a useful skin protection from various airborne allergies, along with natural moisturizers that help keep your lips soft and moisturized. If you are unsure about this product, feel welcomed to visit the website in it. As for the oils (jojoba oil, coconut oil, and olive oil) natural Jojoba oil is a humectant ingredient which means that it works to seal your skin with a protective barrier to keep it from losing moisture. Which means it is perfect for your lips. It is made up of all natural plants and no harsh chemicals. It also has a lot of other benefits that you can find here. Coconut oil has many benefits, such as keeping your skin and hair moisturized, its an edible oil extracted from the kernel or meat of mature coconuts harvested from the coconut palm and can last up to 6 months without going bad. And olive oil, though optional is commonly used in cooking and comes straight from olives, but is safe for the skin and body. I also suggest buying nontoxic, safe (for digestion or skin) coloring and essential oils because not all of them or safe to be put on skin or on your lips. Even though you aren't putting it directly into your mouth, you lick your lips meaning it will go into your mouth. So please make sure you read the ingredients to all your products before buying them.
And you can make multiple batches with this recipe and keep or sell them. Making all of this is very cheap and affordable if you buy it in store. You will spend under 15$. Though, buying online will cost more. I would recommend buying the containers online though because you may not find them in store. And with the amount of product you get, even if its not a lot you can still make plenty of batches since chapstick is small. You can change up the colors, add glitter or scents and personalize it to your own liking.
